Family Literacy Programme – Victory Square
Adult Learning Support has been funded by The Warehouse (via Literacy Aotearoa) to provide a family literacy programme for families around the Victory Square area.
The programme targets adults with literacy difficulties who are parenting pre-schoolers. It aims to develop the adult's literacy skills and to help create a home environment for the pre-schoolert that supports learning and prepares them for school.
With the support of Victory school and the Victory Urban Village Project the programme will run at Victory School for 4 hours per week over 15 weeks, starting next term.
The entry criteria is only that the adults have difficulty with literacy and that they parent a pre-schooler. They do not have to live in the Victory Square area but they would have to be able to get themselves there. The programme will be relaxed, informal and centered around the participants’ needs.
