Greenlane tender gets the green light
Auckland City and Transit New Zealand are calling for tenders for the third and final stage of Project Greenlane, and
the upgrade of the Green Lane East interchange.
Working together will strengthen Auckland’s transport infrastructure to provide more choice for people to get around
both the city and region, says Councillor Richard Simpson, chairperson of Auckland City’s Transport and Urban Linkages
Committee.
“The area around the Green Lane East interchange is used by residents, commuters and visitors alike, and has strategic
importance for moving people around the region.
“Auckland City’s focus is to improve the local roads to ensure these work well for bus passengers, cyclists and
pedestrians, as well as for motorists.
“People need real, sustainable transport choices. Part of this is ensuring the road and street environment is
well-engineered, safe and attractive,” says Mr Simpson.
Project Greenlane includes measures to improve traffic flow, new bus lanes, upgrading the pedestrian environment, and
improving cycling facilities and safety.
Transit’s work aims to improve the approach and traffic flow around the interchange, as well as enhance the area for
pedestrians and cyclists.
The projects are being tendered together to ensure the best price, and ensure work is well co-ordinated.
“Tens of thousands of Aucklanders use this area each day. It’s vital the works are integrated to minimise disruption to
residents and other road users,” says Mr Simpson.
Tender documents are available from Wednesday, 24 August. Tenders close on Friday, 16 September. For more information:
