Whareroa Farm-Aid Dance
16.8.2005
Tickets are selling fast for the Whareroa Farm Aid Concert/Dance to be held at the Paekakariki Memorial Hall on Saturday
night. (20/8)
Guardians of Whareroa Farm Convenor, Jenny Rowan says the event promises “a rollicking great evening” where people can
ho-down, kick off the mid-winter blues and “support a fantastic cause.”
“This campaign has pulled together all the environmental groups in Kapiti, the District Council, the Regional Council
and thousands of ordinary people who are all saying “no way” to the sale of this land for private development,” she
says.
The dance will feature Rhythm Plant – Kapiti’s own environmental “good fun dance band. The band comprising the awesome
team of Richard Guerin, Julie Hanify, Leon Keil, Rachel Keil-Taylor and Chris Straugheir have been together for about 18
months and have played at a range of local and national events and festivals.
Rachel & Leon Keil have been key drivers in the campaign to save Whareroa Farm – keeping it in public ownership for future
generations of Wellingtonians. Phil Simmonds, along with his brother Geoff has been the creative brains behind the now
famous Kapiti videos; Pearl Florrie and the Bull and Paekakariki Centre of the Universe. The two videos will feature at
the dance, along with a lineup of special guests.
Also to be launched is a new CD produced by the Simmonds Brothers featuring a special Save Whareroa theme song, a short
video set on the farm, iconic photographs and background information on the campaign to save the farm. The CD cover
features a watercolour painting of the farm painted by Kapiti artist Wendy Masters.
The CD will be on sale at the dance and can also be bought at the Paekakariki Café, Kakariki Books, and Lush in Raumati.
Funds raised from the sale of dance tickets and the CD will go to the Guardians of Whareroa “fighting fund”.
The dance starts @ 8pm and will run until midnight. Entry $20 single or $30 for couple or families. Tickets from
Paekakariki Fruit & Veg or door sales.
