Internet Job Recruitment At LGOL

Any job seeker within New Zealand or around the globe that is interested in working within New Zealand Local Government now has a way to anonymously and privately register their interest for future positions across all of our 86 councils from one place, thanks to a new initiative by e-services provider to the sector, Local Government Online (LGOL).

LGOL today announced the launch of LGOL Careers (www.quietword.net/lgol), an online recruitment solution designed specifically to build an anonymous community of people that are pre-profiled and ready and willing to work in New Zealand Local Government.

What LGOL Chief Executive Jim Higgins is quick to point out is that LGOL Careers is not just another "me-too" type job board. He explains how LGOL Careers offers a revolutionary new approach and a very different and targeted job seeker experience; "we offer a simple yet powerful proposition for job seekers that addresses the inefficiencies of the 1990s job board approach. LGOL Careers job seekers won't have to keep returning to the website to search through thousands of outdated job listings, nor will they receive poorly matched job-alert spam".

Job seekers visiting LGOL Careers can read about the types of positions that are commonly available within 26 specific functional areas ('talent pools') of Local Government, ranging from Accounting and Finance to Zoological. Job seekers do not just 'post and forget' their CV; rather, they register their interest in specific talent pools by answering meaningful questions related to their experience, skills and job suitability.

Because of its anonymous approach, LGOL Careers is targeted not just at active job seekers, but at all people, whether studying, unemployed, underemployed or happily employed and open to evaluating new opportunities. Job seekers have final control over the release of their private information to any employer, via an invitation and acceptance process. Both a job seeker and an employer's needs must be met or exceeded before any match between them is made.

The Local Government sector is one of our nation's biggest employers, with 86 councils collectively employing around 30,000 employees. Recruiters from these 86 councils will be given access to smart online tools that allow them to search the LGOL Careers talent pools. Because the information collected from job seekers is targeted and relevant to both functional job areas and to New Zealand local government, recruiters will be able to create quality shortlists of people to invite to apply for their open positions.

Higgins points out that "because employers only pay on success, the user-friendly tool is designed to be used by all our councils in every geographic region, regardless of size, remoteness or technical capability". He adds "an employer in Southland might search and find a job seeker in Wellington to invite to apply for an opportunity, so long as all the job seeker's career desires are met, which include an expression of interest to work in that location".

The solution uses a unique technology called Quietword(tm) that rejects the traditional job board advertising-sales method and its 'you find us' approach for job seekers searching for and being alerted to job listings. Quietword also discounts the 'we find you' name generation tactics of trendy and evolving 'social networking' or personal referral tools. The technology ensures a private and secure 'we find each other' experience between a job seeker and an employer.

Quietword is developed by New Zealand technology innovator StaffCV, and is used by educational organisations, government and industry groups to create candidate communities for recruiters to source from.
