Collaborative spirit helps restoration of Vulcan Lane
Plans to upgrade Vulcan Lane and restore it to its former glory are back on track thanks to a fresh round of
consultation with key stakeholders, says Mayor of Auckland City, Dick Hubbard.
Speaking shortly before the second workshop with business owners and occupiers from the lane, the Mayor says he is
impressed with the way council officers have risen to the challenge to find a workable solution for the future of Vulcan
Lane.
“I’m delighted with the new spirit of collaboration between parties,” says Mayor Dick Hubbard.
“Monday’s workshop clearly illustrated that Auckland City officers are willing to listen to the concerns raised about
the future of Vulcan Lane. I am confident that a satisfactory resolution is taking shape,” Mr Hubbard says.
Options for paving, seating, lighting and the overall layout of the lane will be discussed at the second stakeholder
workshop held tonight.
The over-riding message so far is that Vulcan Lane needs restoration but the look and feel of the lane should remain as
close to its current appearance as possible. Improved lighting was another key point raised on Monday night.
After tonight’s workshop, the project team will consider all of the information received before issuing a new design
brief.
