Free First Aid Classes At Highland Park Community House
Highland Park Community House is offering free first aid courses to anyone who is over 16 years old and a New Zealand
Resident or Citizen.
Two courses are being offered: a full comprehensive first aid course and a basic life support course for those who
already hold a valid first aid certificate. Both are New Zealand Qualifications Authority accredited.
The courses are run by medical professionals, ex emergency service personnel and experienced facilitators. Participants
learn a wide range of skills including CPR and emergency breathing techniques, how to control bleeding and shock. They
will be briefed on conditions they may face in the community such as diabetes, epilepsy and allergic reactions.
The recent success of the programme and public demand for the courses means that the Community House is offering further
classes held over two days on 14 and 21 August from 1pm – 8pm.
Sandy Ryan, Highland Park Community House Co-ordinator says, “Our main aim is to ensure that these courses are made
available to as many people in the community as possible. We are committed to this and would like to speak with any
organisation or individual in the hope of running such a course for them and any other groups they are involved in.”
“We want to provide participants with vital life-saving skills and the confidence to use those skills in an emergency.
In doing so we are working towards the goal of seeing a confident, trained, first responder in every New Zealand
household.”
The only criteria are that students are 16 years old or over and New Zealand residents or citizens and they must attend
