Mayor expresses city’s sympathy to visiting Lions supporters
Mayor of Auckland City, Dick Hubbard, will visit the Lions supporters’ headquarters in Viaduct Harbour at 6.15pm this evening to meet with supporters on behalf of the people of Auckland city in the wake of the London tragedy.
It is expected that officials from the British High Commission and Barmy Army organisers will also be there.
“Obviously we are deeply horrified at the events that have taken place in London. Not only are we hosting the Lions team and thousands of supporters from the UK but we will also shortly have a member of the royal family here. Most Aucklanders have at least one family member or a friend living in London.”
“It is at times like this that we truly understand the importance of family, friends and togetherness. We want to give our visitors a strong message of comfort, love and support.”
The mayor is encouraging Aucklanders to come along to the headquarters this evening to show their support.
