Road Transport Funding Package Welcomed
Hutt City Deputy Mayor Roger Styles has welcomed the Government's 10 year $660 million transport funding commitment, saying it was great news for the region.
"It will go a long way to enabling a number of congestion issues that need to be dealt with over the next ten years," said Deputy Mayor Roger Styles.
The money is in addition to previously announced funding for the region of $225 million.
"This will provide a firm basis for agreement to be reached within the framework of the Regional Land Transport Strategy for major passenger transport and roading improvements, which will include the Western and Hutt corridors.
"I expect that detailed programmes will fall out of the RLTS in the next few months."
Roger Styles acknowledged the work done by Regional Council Chairman Ian Buchanan, and praised the co-operative manner in which local councils were working towards transport solutions in the region as part of the Wellington Regional Strategy Forum.
