Council gives residents a glimpse of the future at open day
Manukau City Council is holding an open day on Saturday, 9 July at the Flat Bush School Hall, corner of Murphy’s and
Flat Bush School Roads from 9.30am to 4.30pm to show the public the latest information about the development of the new
town centre at Flat Bush, and Barry Curtis Park.
The Council owns 18 hectares of land that will become the town centre, on either side of Ormiston Road. This land sits
on the eastern edge of a further 94 hectares that is being developed into a new premier park for the city, Barry Curtis
Park.
Although much of the Flat Bush area is little more than grassland at the moment, within 12 years it is expected to
become home to 40,000 people.
“It is an extremely rare opportunity these days to create an entirely new town centre, so this is a very exciting
project for Manukau,” says Bruce Harland, manager of design and development at Flat Bush.
The town centre area will house a mix of commercial, retail, residential and community uses and is intended to form the
heart of the emerging Flat Bush Community. At the open day people can view plans and concepts for the town centre and
Barry Curtis Park, and speak with Council representatives about the project.
