Come and meet those dancing feet
If 'Dancing With The Stars' has got you tapping your toes, Christchurch City Council is giving you an excuse to dig out your dancing shoes and hit the dance floor.
The Mid Winter Hooley, on Wednesday 29 June at Woolston Club, offers a free, day-long escape from the winter blues. There'll be a wide range of activities for the young-at-heart, including a special tea dance featuring the Garden City Big Band playing Glenn Miller favourites. You can also try Tai Chi, a bit of easy exercise, hula health, where you sway to the sounds of the islands, or sing along with Christchurch jazz legend Stu Buchanan.
If you're looking to take up a new interest, the Hooley will have lots of information on the huge range of things to do in your community, from arts and crafts to clubs and social activities. You can also make the most of free advice from health promotion staff, who'll be on hand with information and tips on exercise, nutrition and healthy living. Try any three activities at the Hooley and you could win dinner for two at the Club's Hatrix Restaurant, which will also have a lunch special from 12 to 1.30 pm. Snacks will be available all day.
The Mid Winter Hooley is one of the many local activities and projects funded throughout the year by Hagley-Ferrymead Community Board.
The Hooley runs from 10.30am to 3.30pm at Woolston Club, 43 Hargood Street, Christchurch. A free pick-up service will also be available, courtesy of Woolston Club, by calling 389 7039. Find out more by calling Christchurch City Council on 941 6840, or check out www.bethere.org.nz.
