Wellington boasts biggest TRENZ presence ever
Wellington will have its biggest presence ever at this year’s Tourism Rendezvous New Zealand (TRENZ).
TRENZ, considered New Zealand’s most significant annual tourism tradeshow, is a key attraction for international tourism
buyers. This year’s TRENZ is on at the Westpac Centre, Christchurch, from 13-16 June.
Wellington will have 15 exhibitors at TRENZ, reflecting the city’s continued maturing into one of New Zealand’s leading
international visitor destinations.
The Wellington exhibitors include tourism activity operators, accommodation providers and transport companies
“We’re delighted with the local industry’s support for this important event,” said Positively Wellington Tourism’s Chief
Executive, Tim Cossar. “The number of operators from Wellington has increased dramatically over the past three years,
which reflects the growth in the local tourism industry.”
“The fact that we have operators who are relatively new to tourism taking part in TRENZ reinforces the success
Wellington’s tourism industry has been enjoying lately.”
International visitor nights in the city passed the four million mark to the year ending December 2004 – growth of 12
percent on the year before.
Mr Cossar says the figures show that not only are more people choosing to visit Wellington, but they’re also staying
longer.
“We can see that, on average, length of stay has increased by just over one night over the last two years. This shows
that the city has really matured as a visitor destination and is now much more than just a stopover.”
