Stadium 'hosts' safe drinking expo

The tools for providing a safe and social environment in North Shore City pubs, clubs, restaurants and other licensed
premises, are being promoted at a multi-agency expo, to be held at North Harbour Stadium on June 14.
Over 1,000 licensees across North Shore City, Rodney and Waitakere are being invited to attend the first ever expo of
its kind to be held in the North Harbour region.
Restaurateurs, club, pub, bar and bottle store owners, managers and staff, will be offered advice on the threats they
face in providing a safe environment for their customers such as intoxicated patrons, "p" and drink spiking.
"Everybody knows that intoxication is associated with increased levels of crime, violence and injury. The expo aims to
provide detailed information and advice about the Sale of Liquor Act (1989) and improve working relationships between
licensees and statutory agencies such as the police, liquor liaison groups and licensing inspectors to reduce these
problems," says North Shore City's liquor licensing committee chairperson, councillor Callum Blair.
"The day is a must for licensees who want to run a successful, safe and social establishment. There will be a whole
range of interesting presentations and information available on providing entertainment, safe transport options and the
supply of healthy and substantial food at places selling alcohol," he says.
The expo will include stands and presentations from a wide range of organisations including the police, health agencies,
hospitality management consultants, liquor licensing consultants, licensing inspectors, food wholesalers, security
companies, the fire service and taxi companies.
Presentations will take place between 10.30am and 2.30pm and light refreshments will be available throughout the day.
The North West Host Responsibility and Safer Environments Expo, which takes place on Tuesday, June 14, at North Harbour
Stadium, Albany, is organised and supported by the Police, North Shore City, Rodney District and Waitakere City
Councils, Alcohol Healthwatch, NZ Fire Service and Auckland Regional Public Health Service.
