Sports funding for east Chch
Funding available for sports and recreation groups in east Christchurch
If you're part of a club or organisation which runs sports or physical activities in the east of the city, you may be
able to apply for funding from Burwood/Pegasus Community Board.
The Burwood/ Pegasus Physical Sport and Recreation Fund is available to non-profit clubs and organisations in the ward,
which stretches from Bottle Lake in the north, inland to Marshlands Road, and along the coast to South Shore. The ward
takes in Burwood, Parklands, Shirley, Dallington, Avondale, Aranui, Bexley, Waimairi and the South New Brighton spit.
The fund is the Community Board's way of creating and supporting recreation and sporting opportunities in the area,
particularly for youth under 20, although the Board will also consider applications to fund organisations which cater
for other groups, including older adults, people with disabilities and the general community.
All sport and physical activity clubs and organisations in the ward can apply, regardless of whether they're affiliated
to a national sporting body or not. Applications can be made for up to $2,000, but available funds are dependent on the
number of applications made. Applications will be assessed on how closely they match the aims of the fund, whether
groups are able to make a financial contribution to their project, and whether projects are likely to be successful with
other funding sources.
Organisations and clubs have until Friday 1 July 2005 to make applications. Further information on the fund is at
www.ccc.govt.nz/community/funding/sportandrecreationfund, or for an application form and further details, call Shirley
Service Centre on 941 5333.
