Consent approved for Barmy Army HQ
Independent planning commissioners have approved resource consent for a temporary Barmy Army headquarters during the DHL
NZ Lions Series.
The applicant, Elite Events Ltd, will host the event at the Viaduct Harbour Marine Village, 99 - 115 Halsey Street for
20 days, starting from Saturday 25 June.
Some of the conditions placed on the consent specify that:
- the hours of operation will be limited to:
10am to 3am the following morning on 25 June and 2, 8 and 9 July 2005
10am to 10pm on Sunday 10 July
10am to 1am the following morning on all other days
- measures are in place to enable Halsey Street (between Gaunt and Madden Streets) to become a “local traffic only” area
each night for vehicles and pedestrians
- all external areas including marquees will be vacated by 11.00pm on all nights
- a comprehensive noise management plan is implemented, monitored and enforced
- security guards will be used to control pedestrians around the apartments and public areas surrounding Viaduct
Harbour.
To ensure a robust process, Auckland City outsourced its regulatory role to independent commissioners because it
controls the leases for 99 and 115 Halsey Street (formerly the Team New Zealand and Alinghi Americas Cup bases) where
the event is to take place.
