Sewer upsizing causes traffic disruption

Traffic disruptions are expected in Croftfield Lane and Link Dr over the next four months because of work to upsize a
main trunk sewer.
The work is being done on the pipe that takes sewage from Sunnynook to the Wairau pumping station, and will help prevent
overflows in wet weather.
North Shore City Council is building the sewer using underground, micro-tunnelling technology, but pits are required to
place and retrieve the tunnelling machine.
Two pits are needed on Link Dr, one in front of the stormwater pond and diagonally across from the BBQ Factory, and
another further up the road and on the same side outside Hoyts Cinemas.
Work has begun on the pit in front of the stormwater pond, and the one outside Hoyts Cinema will be dug in late July or
August. Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times.
The tunnel, which has come from outside Harvey Norman in Croftfield Lane and through the roundabout, will join up with
one which has already been completed. It went under the Sunnynook shoulder of the Northern Motorway, then under the
motorway and into Link Dr outside Hoyts Cinema.
The $5.7m project is one of many improvements happening around the city under Project Care, North Shore City Council's
commitment to improving beach and stream water quality.
