Slow down say 60 kindy kids
Sixty Epsom kindy kids and teachers are taking to their street, warning residents and motorists to slow down.
“Small children are sometimes hard to see and it’s just matter of time before a young child is hit by a speeding car,”
says Dr Josie Sinclair, an Epsom resident and orthopaedic surgeon.
“After seeing patients who have been in car accidents, I know the terrible injuries they sustain. The injuries can be
devastating and have a long-term impact on their lives.
“I’m really pleased the children and their teachers are spreading the word about slowing down and encouraging the
community to get behind this important road safety message,” says Dr Sinclair.
Speeding is common in residential streets, says Auckland City’s road safety co-ordinator, Claire Dixon.
“It’s never safe to do this, ever,” she says.
On Thursday, 12 May, balloon and sign carrying children and two teachers from Eden/Epsom Kindergarten will visit their
neighbours wearing t-shirts with the message Slow Down, Children Around.
They hope to cut the risk of a serious crash or injury.
The number of motorists seen travelling over the speed limit in the area prompted Dr Josie Sinclair, who lives in
Kimberley Road, to raise her concerns with Auckland City.
“Auckland City is happy to respond to community needs, especially with such a high number of children in the area,” says
Ms Dixon.
