Life through a lens
Intriguing views of everyday life are revealed in Looking In – Looking Out, a new group photography exhibition at
Artstation from 7 to 18 June 2005.
As part of the 2005 Auckland Festival of Photography, Looking In – Looking Out photographers Meredith Brocklebank,
Terrie Buick, Alka Krisson, Andie Pryce and Katharina Nobbs offer refreshing perspectives on the way we view the world
around us.
The exhibition features: Poetry and image mingling in Meredith Brocklebank’s ‘Verbal Pictures’, a series of photographic
books. Terrie Buick's series of works ‘Feelings of a chair and other tales' portraying a cherished childhood chair
infused with varied emotions. Ethereal and atmospheric qualities of the New Zealand landscape, captured in Alka
Krisson’s meditative studies on landscape. Katharina Nobbs’ ‘The Mannequin’ shows mannequins through windows. Partially
obscured by glass, the mannequins appear intangible yet also reflect human vulnerabilities. Andie Pryce’s abstract
series, ‘The Colour of Flowers’, blurring the line between painting and photography. She says, “I hope my simple vision
of the inherent beauty of flowers provides the viewer with an experience of sinking into their senses.”
An Artists’ Talk, "A Collective Perspective", is being held at 1pm on Saturday 11 June and will coincide with Looking In
– Looking Out. The photographers will discuss their work in the show and the formation of their photography group as a
potential model for other artists and community networks.
