Fendalton library extends Saturday hours and fixes parking issues
Fendalton Community Library is planning a special celebration on Saturday 7 May, when it doubles its Saturday opening
hours.
A new resource consent means the library will now open from 10am to 4pm on Saturdays. Its existing resource consent
meant the library was only able to open for 3 hours on Saturdays. The library is also open from 9am to 8pm every
weekday.
Fendalton Community Librarian Margaret Clune says the new Saturday hours will mean more local people can make use of the
library: “Being open on Saturday afternoons is much more convenient for a lot of people who’d like to use the library at
the weekend. The new hours are long overdue, and bring us into line with other Christchurch City Libraries.”
As the library opens for longer, Christchurch City Council is taking measures around the building to reduce the possible
impact of the extended hours on local residents, including new road markings to reduce street parking and an improved
car park behind the library with additional spaces and a better layout.
Fendalton’s new hours are the final stage in an overhaul of opening times across the city, resulting in the 13
Christchurch City Libraries now opening for an extra 39.5 hours each week. Two new community libraries, in Upper
Riccarton and Parklands, open later this year.
