Hoax inorganic collection flyers being distributed
Hoax flyers providing incorrect inorganic collection dates have been distributed under the name of Auckland City.
The hoax leaflet, using the Auckland City logo and contact details, gives incorrect dates for several suburbs. Auckland City is telling residents to wait for their official flyer before putting their rubbish out.
The correct flyer is four pages, A5 size and in colour.
Warwick Jaine, resource recovery manager for Auckland City, said if people were unsure about when to put out their inorganic rubbish out they should call Auckland City on (09) 379 2020 or visit the council’s website.
“At the moment, we know the flyers have been distributed in Kingsland and Mount Albert. However, the flyer mentions several other suburbs as well so we will be monitoring and responding to the situation as required,” he said.
Mr Jaine said he had no idea who was printing and distributing the flyers.
“Whoever is doing this has gone to considerable effort. We don’t know who it is, or what their motivation might be,” he said.
“It is a totally irresponsible and selfish prank. Affected residents will not find it particularly funny and neither does their council, given the extra time and money it may cost.”
