Movie in the Park: Bend It Like Beckham
Take your family and friends, spread out a rug for a picnic tea and enjoy a FREE magical night at the movies under the
stars with Christchurch City Council’s “Movie in the Park’.
“Bend It Like Beckham’ (rated PG) will screen in Avonhead’s Crosbie Park this Sunday 20 March at 7.30pm, and in Linwood
Park on Wednesday 23 March at 7.30pm.
If you haven’t seen the film already, it’s a British drama about Jess, a teenager who faces the choice between following
the traditions of her Indian family or following her dream of becoming a top soccer player, like David Beckham. When she
meets Jules, who’s also crazy about soccer, the two find strength in their ambition to be the best.
They take their skills onto the pitch and lead their team to victory against the odds. It’s only when they both fall for
their coach, Joe, that their friendship is put to the test. Finally, as their team faces its toughest opposition, Jess
has to face up to her loyalties - to her best friend, her family, and herself.
“Bend It Like Beckham’ is being shown as part of the Council’s celebration of Race Relations Day, 21st March, and is a
SummerTimes„· event. It is funded by the Fendalton/Waimari and Hagley/Ferrymead Community Boards.
