Speed Limits Changing
Speed limits on some roads in Mangere, Whitford and Flat Bush will be lowered to keep pace with the areas' growing
populations. The new speed limits will come into force on 1 April 2005.
The new Land Transport Rule: Setting of Speed Limits 2003 requires local councils to establish a new bylaw by 1 July
2005 to set speed limits within their city limits.
Following consultation with the police, community boards and other interested parties late last year, Manukau City
Council has decided to make changes to the speed limits on some of the city's streets.
Alf Filipaina, chairperson of Manukau City Council's Transport Committee, identified the new speed limits as set out in
the Parking and Traffic chapter of the Manukau City Consolidated Bylaw as follows:
- Oruarangi Road, reduced from 70 km/h to 50km/h
- James Fletcher Drive, reduced from 70km/h to 60km/h
- Chapel Road, reduced from 80km/h to 70km/h
- Baverstock Road, reduced from 100km/h to 50 km/h
- Stancombe Road, reduced from 100km/h to 70km/h
- Ormiston Road, between Chapel Road and Murphys Road, reduced from100km/h to 70 km/h ]
- Flat Bush School Road, between Chapel Road and Murphys Road, reduced from 100km/h to 70km/h

Murphys Road, reduced from 100km/h to 70km/h and
-Jeffs Road, between Ormiston Road and Stancombe Road, reduced from 100 km/h to 70 km/h.
"Speed limits on the roads in Flat Bush maybe further reduced as the development of the new town progresses," says
Councillor Filipaina.
Flat Bush is New Zealand's largest new urban development. It is expected to accommodate 40,000 people, a population the
size of Whangarei, within the next 15 years.
