Water quality returned to normal below site of sewerage spill
The ‘all clear’ has been given, this morning, for the stretch of river below Thursday’s sewage spill into the Avon (Avonside Drive and Fitzgerald Ave). The Council laboratories have been testing each day, but it takes a full day from when a sample is taken until the concentrations of E.coli can be assessed. The level of bugs downstream must be no more than 125% of the concentration above the overflow site and, for the all clear to be made, it must be so for two days in a row.
The results from Saturday’s and Sunday’s samples means that all clear can be given and the signs which were erected along the river bank to inform the public can be removed.
