Nesian Mystik at Auckland Zoo
Nesian Mystik, the best hip hop/R boys in New Zealand, if not the Pacific, wrap up the immensely popular ASBZooMusic series at Auckland Zoo, on Saturday 5 March (6pm – 9pm).
Concert goers are in for a treat, as they will be among the first to hear new material from the guys, including two singles set for release in April, as well as other songs from their upcoming album, due out in November. They'll also be playing their well-proven favourites on the night.
This sixth, and last concert in the 2005 ASBZooMusic summer series is also part of the AK05 Auckland Festival, and is hooked up by FLAVA 96.1 and hosted by Stacey Daniels.
Nesian Mystik will be joined by hip hop duo Tyna and JB, and Flow on Show for this festive action-packed evening. The Tau Fuata Niue Cultural Group will be performing. People will also be able to check out the innovative creations of Disruptiv, New Zealand's top graffiti artists, who will be producing a wall of art during the evening’s performance.
Nesian Mystik’s blend of Pasifika-infused R and hip hop has won them an international following. The six-member group, who started out playing in the music rooms of Western Springs College, just across the road from the zoo, compose all their material, music, beats and rhymes. They sing about what is close to them, drawing on their cultures and families for inspiration, as well as their humorous take on hip hop culture. Their first album, Polysaturated, was an award-winner and a popular success.
The ASBZooMusic series is now in its second year. Since late January thousands of people have flocked to the zoo to enjoy the likes of top kiwi artists such as Dave Dobbyn, Yulia, Nathan Haines, Katchafire and Goodshirt, and a great line-up of support acts.
"Auckland Zoo is a spectacular and unique setting for concerts, and once again, thanks to the support of ASB Bank, we've been able to offer music lovers an outstanding line-up of kiwi talent. We have also had great weather. All up, that's a combination that's pretty hard to beat," says Auckland Zoo events co-ordinator, Jackie Sanders. "We're absolutely delighted that so many Aucklanders have enjoyed and supported the series."
Those coming to Nesian Mystik on Saturday 5 March are welcome to come to the zoo early, visit the animals and just enjoy hanging out at Auckland's best park before the concert begins. Be sure to bring a picnic, or pre-order a Zoo Hamper from the Visitors’ Centre (phone 09 360 3805), for $30, $45 or $70. You can also purchase dinner from Darwin's café or the BBQs we will have set up near the Band Rotunda. Darwin's is licensed, and we will also have a fully licensed bar set up in the grounds, where a range of Coopers Creek wines will be available.
Tickets for Nesian Mystik’s concert can be pre-purchased through Ticketek, or from the zoo. With limited capacity, and tickets already selling, we recommend advance booking. Tickets: Adults $20, Children (4+yrs) $10, Students and Seniors $15. Ticket prices include admission to the zoo. To find out more about ASBZooMusic, visit www.aucklandzoo.co.nz.
