Sewer Spill
A blockage in a sewer pipe resulted in an overflow of sewage into the Avon River, at Avonside Drive and Fitzgerald Avenue, this morning.
The blockage has been cleared and Christchurch City Council is investigating the cause.
The pollution team from Environment Canterbury has taken samples. Water quality will be tested daily by Christchurch City Council laboratories until downstream and upstream samples are comparable.
Signs have been erected along to the river bank to inform the public.
Rowers and kayakers should avoid the river from the area of the spill and downstream and it is suggested people who walk along the riverbank and their pets should also avoid the area.
