Lane closure for Glenfield Rd upgrade

North Shore City Council's major upgrade of Glenfield Rd will result in some disruption to traffic from next week.
Some work, such as the temporary removal of trees, and replacement of the Sunset Rd roundabout with traffic lights, has
already begun.
Starting February 28, traffic will be restricted to one lane each way between Bentley Ave and Camrose Pl. Traffic
turning out of Bentley Ave will be restricted to one lane turning north.
"The lane closures are needed to install a new 700mm water main under the existing road. We're coordinating with
Watercare so that the water upgrade will work with the road upgrade to minimise disruption to residents and road users,
" North Shore City's corridor project team manager, Graham Nell, says.
"The Glenfield Rd upgrade is a major project that will take at least 18 months. Over that time, there will be disruption
to traffic at times, as we work on various stages of the project. This work will be coordinated to ensure we cause the
least possible inconvenience. "
The Glenfield Rd upgrade began after extensive consultation with the general public, local residents and businesses. The
upgrade will cater for present and future transport demand by improving the traffic flow and safety of the road.
The project will include new traffic lights at the Sunset Rd intersection, road widening to allow for two lanes in each
direction, and the addition of cycle lanes and bus priority measures. The look of the road will also be improved by a
new planted median between Chivalry Rd and Camelot Pl.
"The result will be a much safer, more user-friendly road, and a reliable water supply for North Shore residents and
road users. In the meantime, we are grateful to everyone for putting up with some inconvenience while the work is done."
