From street to square dancing
Aucklanders have been Dancing in the Street at Auckland City’s first two free concerts and now it’s time for a special
addition to this year’s music calendar – Dancing in the Square.
People are invited to bring their dancing shoes down to Aotea Square on Friday 4 March for this unique free event which
is part of AK05’s great line up.
Aotea Square will be serving up dark electronic dub from Pitch Black, along with dark and dirty drum ‘n’ bass duo
Concord Dawn, Nick D and 15-piece group Batucada Sound Machine, who mix Brazilian and Cuban grooves with hip hop and
drum ‘n’ bass styles.
As well as Dancing in the Square, there is another chance for Aucklanders to get their booty shakin’ with the Dancing in
the Street series. 18 March will see Lorne Street converted to a dance party, with Soane delivering some of the finest
house and 95bfm DJs Jason Rockpig, Havoc and The Professor each spinning a set to produce some high voltage dance floor
anthems.
Dancing in the Street is a programme of free street concerts, which make up part of Auckland City’s Music in Parks
series. They are a celebration of New Zealand music for all ages featuring some of Auckland’s finest DJs and bands.
Check www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/mips for more details or listen to 95bfm.
The Auckland City Music in Parks events are just a few of more than 60 free events provided by Auckland City, in
association with 95bm, as part of the Ak@Play summer events programme.
