Helicopter Called To Mother And Son In Quadbike Accident
The Wellington based Westpac rescue helicopter airlifted a 33 year old woman and her 20 month old son from the Marlborough Sounds earlier today.
The pair were on a quad bike that rolled on a farm at Port Ligar, east of Durville Island, at around 8.30am this morning. The Westpac Rescue Helicopter, with a Wellington Free Ambulance paramedic on board, responded shortly thereafter and arrived on the scene approximately 25 minutes later, landing on a farm track close to the accident scene. Both patients suffered minor head injuries and facial lacerations, and multiple abrasions."Fortunately both were wearing helmets, which undoubtably saved them from more serious injuries," commented Life Flight crew person Ruth Zeinert.
The patients, along with two other family members, were flown to Nelson hospital where they are currently being assessed in the Emergency Department. Both are in a stable condition.
