One mayor on a bike equals one less car on the road Mayor
Dick Hubbard is gearing up for Auckland City’s annual Bike to Work Breakfast on Wednesday, 16 February.
The mayor is joining the expected 500 plus cyclists who will travel into Aotea Square for the event.
Everyone who cycles to the event, held between 6.30am and 9am, will receive a free nutritious breakfast. Live music,
cycle safety information, prize draws and bike stunts are also on offer.
Mayor Hubbard says Auckland City is encouraging all Aucklanders to get out of their cars and on to a bike as a fun,
healthy alternative way to travel.
“Every cyclist is one less car on the road. Cycling is set to pay an increasingly important role in easing congestion on
Auckland’s roads.
“The council is committed to improving and developing cycling facilities. Following the success of the north-western
cycleway, with the assistance from external funders, we are developing a $3 million cycleway linking the southern
suburbs of the city. The cycleway will provide a safe facility for cyclists from Pikes Point in Onehunga through to
Richardson Road in Wesley,” says Mr Hubbard.
