$6.5 Million Won By Wellington Ticket – Second Big Powerball Win In A Row For Capital
A Lotto ticket sold in Wellington has won $6.5 million after winning the Powerball jackpot in last night's Lotto draw, the second huge win in a row for the Capital, Chief Executive Trevor Hall said today.
The ticket was sold at Coastlands Lotto, Paraparaumu, and the winner, who is still to come forward, will take home a total of $6,541,653. This is made up of $6,187,065 from Powerball and $354,588 from being a Division One Lotto winner. There were two other Division One winners, from tickets sold at Pak N' Save Lincoln Road, Auckland, and Bayfair Lotto Kiosk in Tauranga. Both tickets won $354,588.
Thirteen lucky players from throughout New Zealand won $23,886 by winning Lotto Second Division, with two of these tickets also winning another $21,564 with Second Division Powerball, a total of $45,450.
Another Wellingtonian, Wendy Forrest from Lower Hutt, won $100,000 on Lotto's Winning Wheel when she spun on last night's draw.
"What an amazing night for the Capital. That's more than $6.6 million that's gone to tickets sold in Wellington," said Mr Hall. Mr Hall urged all Lotto players who bought tickets at Coastlands Lotto to get their tickets checked and to immediately contact the Lotteries Commission if they have won. "We have staff who can provide winners with advice about the next steps to take. "We are thrilled for this week's winner. With a total prize pay-out of $6.5 million, this is one of the largest Powerball jackpots ever won in Wellington, and comes hard on the heels of our last Powerball winner, also from the Capital, who took home an incredible $9.9 million.
"The largest prize ever won by an individual ticket was $14,763,254, won in April last year from a ticket sold in Kawerau. That winner took home $14,513,254 from Powerball and $250,000 from being a Division One Lotto winner. Other big wins have included an $11.4 million prize that went to a ticket bought in Hokitika in November 2002," he said.
