Alleged Newtown rape unfounded
Wellington CIB is no longer looking for anyone in connection with an alleged multiple rape in Newtown last Thursday night.
Detective Inspector Gary Knowles, head of Wellington CIB, says the exhaustive police inquiry involving up to 25 staff, has resulted in the young female complainant being referred to police Youth Aid.
"We have spoken to a number of people, including four youths, and undertaken significant scene inquiries," Detective Inspector Knowles says. "We are satisfied that the allegations as made to police are unfounded."
Police thank the media and public for their assistance.
