Christchurch Garden City rebranding

Published: Fri 28 Jan 2005 12:03 AM
Organisers of the Future Living environmental expo, to be held in Christchurch this weekend are hoping that in the future Christchurch will be known not only as the nations Garden City but also by the other epiphet Christchurch previously famous for - Christchurch, City of Cycles.
Brian Walsh, of the Future Living Expo says, " It's great that Christchurch will again be known as the Garden City but with over 95% of the greenhouse gas CO2 coming from the citys motor vehicles and the looming problem of the end of cheap fossil fuels, Christchurch people should again take to their bicycles and make Christchurch famous again as the City of Cycles."
"At the Future Living Expo we wanted to tackle the fossil fuels and environmental issues head on by showing some clean green, practical and fun ways of getting from A to B including the new NZ made Avanti hybrid electric cycle, recliner cycles as well as Hondas hybrid Civic cars and the eScooter electric mo-ped"
The Future Living Expo is putting its money where its mouth is by rewarding people who cycle to the expo with 2 for 1 entry concessions, VIP (Very Important Pedaller) parking right outside the venue plus people who cycle to the expo can go in the draw for a YHA mini break at YHA Franz Joseph Glacier plus the Christchurch City Council are giving away free cycle path route maps and other information.
The Future Living Expo is on on this weekend on the 29-30th January, from 10am-4pm each day at the Horticultural Hall (diagonally opposite the Public Hospital) on Riccarton Ave. More info on http://www.futureliving.co.nz/
