Book, a boon for Travis Wetland walkers
A walking guide to Travis Wetland will be launched by the Travis Wetland Trust on World Wetland Day, 2 February.
The 50-page book, produced by the Trust, covers topics such as the wetland’s bird-life, history and water quality, with
links to each of the area’s 15 interpretation sites. Its publication follows the completion of a new walkway at Travis
Wetland, which allows visitors to travel a complete circuit of the area.
Christchurch City Council parks and waterways planner, Eric Banks said, “the guide has been written to improve
understanding of wetland ecosystems, publicise Travis and to add value to visiting the wetland.”
Production of the guide has been sponsored by Christchurch City Council, Banrock Station Wines and Environment
Canterbury. Copies will be available for $10 from Council Service Centres and Civic Offices, with proceeds first used to
cover printing costs. Any further profits will be invested in the wetland.
The book launch will start at 5pm on Wednesday 2 February at Travis Wetland’s Beach Road Education Centre. It will
include an introductory talk, souvenir sales and a guided walk.
