Heathcote River Day -- a great day for participants and spectators
Heathcote River Day is a local favourite and it’s back again this year, on Saturday 29 January.
The Council-supported journey down the Heathcote River -- with homemade rafts, canoes and all sorts of watercraft -- starts at 11am from the Waltham Park Pools. This community event is fun for those on the water and great entertainment for spectators.
This year’s event categories include junior, intermediate and senior/family, with spot prizes for the design and decoration of craft, fair play and for best-dressed participants.
The prize giving and a sausage sizzle will be held at the St Martins Scout Den. To take part you must register before the event. Registration is free and forms are available from the City Council’s Beckenham Service Centre/South Christchurch Library (just south of the Heathcote River bridge on Colombo Street). The closing date for registration is Sunday, 23 January. Organised by local community organisations in partnership with Christchurch City Council, Heathcote River Day is funded by the City Council’s Spreydon/Heathcote Community Board. For more information, call the Council’s customer centre on 941 6840.
