Aucklanders encouraged to enjoy Summer Fling
Aucklanders are invited to don painting shirts and join the Summer Fling festivities with a day of sun, fun and painting
at the Auckland Domain on Sunday 16 January.
Summer Fling is more than a one-day outdoor painting excursion – it also offers participants the chance to be part of
the subsequent exhibition of artworks at the Artstation Gallery from 1 – 18 February.
Organisers Kate Brettkelly-Chalmers, Kah Bee Chow and Leah Mulgrew encourage people of all ages and abilities to join
them in capturing the scenic outdoors through art.
“The Summer Fling excursion and exhibition is meant to be an enjoyable, relaxed and supportive experience,” says
co-organiser Leah Mulgrew. “I’m a bit nervous. I’ve never painted from a natural environment but I’m going to give it a
go and see what happens. Anything goes.”
Kah Bee Chow adds, “The focus is on fun, having a go and trying something new. For many people it may be their first
experience of painting outdoors or being part of an exhibition. The Artstation exhibition will be a chance for
participants to meet, view artworks and to celebrate the summer season.”
A limited amount of art materials will be available on the day. Organisers also suggest participants bring their own art
materials, pack a picnic and make a day of it.
Summer Fling is kindly sponsored by Studio Art Supplies.
