Party atmosphere to greet penultimate Global arrival
Pindar, running second-to-last in the Global Challenge race leg from Buenos Aires, is due to arrive at the Wellington Race Village on the waterfront this evening – probably some time after 7pm.
The first 10 yachts docked in the Race Village in the past 60 hours – and a party atmosphere is already well entrenched in and around the bars of Queens Wharf. So it is likely Pindar will receive an enthusiastic welcome this evening.
At last report, early this afternoon, Pindar was making about 3 knots in very light winds in Cook Strait.
The last yacht, Stelmar, which had to divert with an injured crew member in the middle of the Southern Ocean, is still too far away from New Zealand to predict an accurate arrival – but it is expected some time next week.
