CMJ traffic bulletin: Saturday 1 January until Thursday 6 January
Transit New Zealand would like to advise motorists of proposed closures for work on the Central Motorway Junction upgrade over the upcoming weeks.
CMJ Stage 1
Ramp and link closures:
Wednesday 5 January - CLOSED - overnight from 8pm until 6am on Thursday:
. Symonds St on-ramp (SH1 southbound)
. Port on-ramp (SH1 southbound)
. Wellesley St on-ramp (SH1 southbound)
. Khyber Pass on-ramp (SH1 southbound)
. Gillies Ave on-ramp (SH1 northbound)
. Khyber Pass off-ramp (SH1 northbound)
. Northwestern to Southern Motorway Link (SH16 to SH1 southbound)
Thursday 6 January - CLOSED - overnight from 8pm until 6am on Friday:
. Symonds St on-ramp (SH1 southbound)
. Port on-ramp (SH1 southbound)
. Wellesley St on-ramp (SH1 southbound)
. Khyber Pass on-ramp (SH1 southbound)
. Gillies Ave on-ramp (SH1 northbound)
. Khyber Pass off-ramp (SH1 northbound)
. Northwestern to Southern Motorway Link (SH16 to SH1 southbound)
Ongoing motorway lane closures:
There will be ongoing north and southbound lane closures at night on the Southern Motorway between the Gillies Ave on- and off-ramps and the Symonds St overbridge from Sunday through to Thursday nights until early 2005. Night works will end on Tuesday 21 December for the Christmas and New Year period, and will recommence on Wednesday 5 January 2005.
Please choose alternative routes during these closures. Motorists are advised that there could be delays.
CMJ Stage 2
Ramp and link closures:
Wednesday 5 January and Thursday 6 January - CLOSED - overnight from 9pm until 6am the following morning:
. Northwestern Motorway to Port (SH16 port-bound)
. Northwestern Motorway to Southern Motorway link (SH16 to SH1 southbound)
. Port to Northwestern Motorway (SH16 westbound)
. Wellesley St on-ramp to Northwestern Motorway (SH16)
Motorists travelling on the Northwest Motorway to or from the Port or to the South during these times are advised to follow the detours which will be fully sign-posted while the motorway closures are in place.
In the event of bad weather the closure will be postponed to the night of Sunday 9 January.
Transit New Zealand regrets any inconvenience caused.
The CMJ Project
Stage 1 of Transit's Central Motorway Junction upgrade project covers the section of motorway between the Upper Queen St over-bridge and Gillies Ave on- and off-ramps and is scheduled for completion in 2005.

Stage 2 of Transit's Central Motorway Junction upgrade project extends from Bond St on the Northwestern Motorway (SH16) to the interface with CMJ Stage 1 near Symonds St and from Wellington St on the Southern Motorway (SH1) to Symonds St.
