January Extreme Outdoor Adventures for teens!
Manukau City Council's 'Manukau On The Move' team have organised a fun packed school holiday break for teens, with plenty of outdoor action laced with thrills and spills to wile away the January school holidays.
Their one week Teen Extreme programme offers a range of outdoor adventure pursuits for 12 to 16 year olds, running from Monday 17 - Friday 21 January 2005. Youngsters can participate on a daily basis or, for the really energetic, make it a week's adventure.
Manukau on the Move Team Leader Judith Harris says, "This programme will suit enthusiastic teenagers who are keen to take up energetic, challenging activities such as kayaking, sailing, abseiling, beach sports and much more.
"Monday 17 January sees teens venturing out onto the water developing kayaking skills. Enhance your paddling skills and enlist for 'Sea kayaking'. Experience the thrill of handling your own boat on Tuesday with 'Summer Sailing' and learn the skills of this popular recreational pursuit. If Abseiling in a scenic bush setting appeals to you, try 'Karamatura Adventure' on Wednesday, when you will be doing outdoor cooking and team challenges as well.
"Join in a mixture of awesome beach sports on Thursday at a 'Multi Sports Day' and get ready for our mini beach Pentathlon. Finally on Friday 21st be up for a fun challenge when teens 'Dare to Discover Devonport', participating in such activities as cardboard box sliding, a North Head clue find and a Devonport dash."
All specialist equipment is provided and qualified instructors are on hand. Pick up and drop off points are Howick Recreation Centre 9am - 4pm and Alan Brewster Recreation Centre at Papatoetoe, 8.30 am - 4pm. Cost is $40 per day or $175 for the whole week. Bring lunch and a drink, water bottle, small backpack, sunblock and hat and a change of clothes. For water sports bring togs and towel, change of clothes, shoes for the water - wetsuit is optional.
Interested teens should phone 274 6904 for more information and registration details.
