All Aboard for Books Ahoy! Tihe Pukapuka
'Books Ahoy' Tihe Pukapuka is the theme of Manukau Libraries reading programme this summer. The programme aims to encourage children's reading over the Summer Break, using a fun Pirates theme.
On enrolment, each child receives a colourful reading folder and signs a "pirate's oath" to commit to a reading goal during their school holidays. Participants receive stickers and incentives as they reach milestones in the programme.
Children and parents are encouraged to talk to library staff about the books they have read throughout the programme. This year, some libraries are offering an optional on-line check-in as well. There are fun activity days at the library through the school holidays tying in with the pirate theme and a grand finale party at the end of the programme in January.
The 'Books Ahoy!' programme is free to join for Manukau Library members, and open to those aged between 4-12 years. The programme runs from 6 December until 21 January 2005. Parents note: Places are limited and sought after! Children must enroll with their parents/caregivers in person at their nearest participating Manukau Library on enrolment day.
This year's enrolment starts on Thursday 2 December at 3.30pm. For more information on the Summer Reading Programme, contact your local Manukau library.
Manukau Libraries Summer Reading Programme is kindly supported by Pakuranga Rotary Club.
