JOINT MEDIA RELEASE: Auckland Regional Council and Honda New Zealand
Buy a car and donate ten trees
Auckland Regional Council and Honda New Zealand have today signed an agreement that will see ten native trees funded for every Honda sold in the Auckland region.
ARC Chairman Michael Lee and Honda New Zealand Managing Director Graeme Seymour formally acknowledged Honda New Zealand as an Environmental Initiatives Fund partner.
Honda New Zealand supports the ARC’s Environmental Initiatives Fund via a national project developed by Honda earlier this year, called the Honda TreeFund.
The ARC Environmental Initiatives Fund was established in February 2000 with the aim of supporting practical community projects that enhance, restore and protect Auckland’s natural, cultural and physical environment.
Mr. Lee praised the ‘environmental partnership’ between the ARC and Honda New Zealand.
“The partnership will help environmental community groups and individuals to restore our native ecology. Native planting will help provide natural corridors for birds and insects, prevent erosion, and improve air and water quality,” said Mr. Lee.
Honda’s Managing Director Graeme Seymour says the partnership with the ARC is only the beginning.
“We expect to fund over 60,000 trees nationally every year and are rolling out the Tree Fund with other regional councils as well. The Treefund is a positive way to offset some of the carbon monoxide emissions from the motor vehicles our customers drive.” he said.
ARC Councillors, Honda New Zealand representatives and staff including Director Toshio Iwamoto and Managing Director Graeme Seymour today visited an EIF funded project, the Puhoi Landcare project.
