Auckland City to brief licensees ahead of new smoke-free law
Auckland City is holding a smoking and liquor licensing forum to help owners of licensed premises understand their
responsibilities ahead of new smoke-free laws coming into force next month.
The forum will give an overview of liquor licensing, noise regulations, street trading licensing and the new smoke-free
legislation, which will ban smoking inside licensed premises. This legislation comes into effect on 10 December 2004
under the Smoke-free Environments Amendment Act 2003 and will have implications for all bars, cafes and restaurants.
¡§We¡¦ve had a fantastic response from licensees who are keen to come along and find out more¡¨, says Geoff Atherfold,
team leader, compliance monitoring. ¡§It is important that owners of restaurants and bars are aware of their
responsibilities and this is an opportunity for them to learn what this might mean for them.¡¨
