Aucklanders' views sought on new alcohol bans
This weekend 900 Aucklanders will be asked for their views on the new alcohol bans introduced in the city earlier this
month.
The telephone survey will include 100 randomly selected central city residents along with 100 residents from each of the
other Auckland city ban areas.
The central city ban has been extended to cover a wider geographical area and 24/7 time frame. New alcohol bans have
been introduced in the shopping and business areas of Panmure, Avondale, Onehunga, Glen Innes, Parnell, Newmarket and
Otahuhu as well as Mission Bay beach.
In this weekend’s survey, people will be asked whether they support the new bans, if the area and/or timing of the bans
should be extended and what other things Auckland City should do to address alcohol related issues.
Auckland City’s research and consultation manager, Andrew Stevenson, says the results will act as a benchmark for the
full review which the council plans to undertake in July 2005.
The survey will be weighted to ensure it represents the population with respect to age, gender, ethnicity and
employment. The results will be made public early next month.
