Final election results show no change in make up of council
The final count of votes for the Auckland City Council election was completed last night and there was no change to the
make-up of the council since the preliminary results last Saturday evening.
Auckland City’s electoral officer Dale Ofsoske made the official declaration of the winners yesterday and the new
council took office at midnight.
The new council is unable to act until it is sworn in at an official ceremony on 21 October.
The decision made by the new council at an informal meeting earlier in the week to elect Councillor Bruce Hucker as
deputy mayor will be ratified at the swearing in ceremony.
Between election day and when the new council is sworn in a political mechanism is put in place that sees any unforeseen
major decisions, which would normally have been made by the council, made by the chief executive, Mr Bryan Taylor and
the Mayor, Mr Dick Hubbard, in consultation with councillors Scott Milne, leader for Citizens and Ratepayers Now, Bruce
Hucker leader of City Vision/Labour/Action Hobson and independent, Faye Storer.
