Western Corridor Study Contract
Greater Wellington’s Transport Strategic Direction Manager Tony Brennand says he is pleased to announce the Western Corridor Study has been let to international consultants Maunsell.
“Maunsell is part of the AECOM group of companies employing around 17,000 people worldwide. Maunsell provide technical and professional consulting expertise to clients throughout Australia, New Zealand, Asia and the Middle East.”
Tony said increasing public concern about transportation congestion along Wellington region’s Western Corridor (the main road and rail connections between Peka Peka and Ngauranga) has prompted a variety of proposals and studies in recent years.
Tony says the Western Corridor Study will contribute towards the Wellington Regional Land Transport Strategy and will contain a number of initiatives that will provide a package of short, medium and long-term plans so the community and business interests can see what transport improvements are proposed. “The outcome of the review will be a sequential transport plan encompassing rail, road, pedestrian, cycle and travel demand management along with future land use options.
The review will consider a full range of transport options including Transmission Gully, which remains as one of the wide range of those options with ease of travel a major focus.” Maunsell Regional Manager Steven Knowles says work has begun on a preliminary discussion document due to be available the beginning of October. “One of our first tasks is to complete a public consultation document seeking public opinion on the issues, objectives and target performance :
