Whangaparaoa Four Laning Tenders Opened
Another milestone of progress has been passed with the opening of the largest ever road construction tender in Rodney District Council’s history.
Roading Manager Barry George said today that the Four Laning of Whangaparaoa Road from Red Beach Road to Vipond Road was also the second-largest roading project let in Auckland this year. Its estimated value is around $12million.
“The works are directly aimed at relieving the congestion on Whangaparaoa Road and because the Council has decided on a construction schedule of 26 weeks, we expect completion in mid-April next year.”
Eastern Ward Councillor Gaye Harding said at the opening that she believed the project’s design would deliver a good balance between local residents’ concerns for road safety and peninsula motorists’ desire for rapid relief of the congestion.
“These have been recurrent themes in the community consultation we have undertaken so I’m delighted to see that being given effect,” Cr Harding said.
Mr George said the next steps were evaluation of the tenders and Council approval to proceed at its meeting of 30 September.
Three tenders have been received - from HEB Contractors Ltd, Fulton Hogan Ltd and Works Infrastructure Ltd.
