A Sustainable Mayor?

A Sustainable Mayor?
Apart from the word transport, “sustainable” would be the next most popular word that has been used in recent Mayoral debates in the battle for Mayor of Auckland City. What does this really mean, and how can everyone claim their policies to be sustainable?
In a visual display that Tim Shadbolt would be proud of, Dick Hubbard holds one hand high and describes the “Social” aspect of his vision, then comes the other hand which encompasses the “Environmental” considerations, and with decisive hand movements they come together to describe the basis of good “Economic” decision making being at the heart of Smart Business. There we have triple bottom line approach in one shake of the hand.
Christine Fletcher has yet to give us her meaning of this well used word and we look forward to hearing this. We regret that the Honourable Mayor Jon Banks will not be available to discuss the vision of a Sustainable Auckland. On the 23rd September Dick Hubbard and Christine Fletcher will share their visions while hearing from the business sector what they need in their Mayor.
This is a public opportunity to interact with two of the leading Mayoral candidates in the build-up to election day on the 9th October.
