Transit New Zealand signs MOU with Auckland City Council on V8 car race
“The MoU Transit has signed today with the Auckland City Council allows us to tell V8 car race consent commissioners that if the race proceeds traffic effects can be managed,” says Transit chief executive Rick van Barneveld.
“Is not possible to have traffic management details finalised at this stage so far in advance of the race. It is certainly not practicable to do so in a consent hearing.
“The process and milestones we have agreed with the Auckland City Council will ensure that plans are progressively firmed up and that the city is accountable for securing the support of its local authority neighbours.
“It is not appropriate for Transit to support or oppose the event. The MoU makes sure that if the race proceeds Transit’s responsibility for managing traffic can be satisfied,” he said.
