Young people sought for Environment Forum
Greater Wellington is seeking applications by young people passionate about the environment to join the second National Youth Environment Forum in December.
The forum is open to young people aged 16 to 18, and three representatives are invited from each of the 16 regions in New Zealand to the three-day event held in Wellington in December. Greater Wellington environment education co-ordinator Susan Hutchinson-Daniel said delegates need to have a strong understanding of environmental issues facing New Zealand, and the energy, enthusiasm and commitment to tackle them at a community, regional and national level.
“They will have the chance to learn, discuss and debate environmental issues with other youth from all over New Zealand.” Participants would be encouraged to use the experience to increase environmental awareness in their own communities afterwards.
Applicants need to write a letter explaining – What do you think are the most important issues for the Wellington region? Why should you be chosen to represent Wellington? What voluntary work/projects/research have you done? How do you see yourself making a difference?
Letters should be around 250 words and can include photos and diagrams. Applicants also need to provide a letter of support from a teacher, principal or community member. Applications are due by 8th of October, and should be sent to: Susan Hutchinson-Daniel, Greater Wellington, P O Box 11-646, Wellington.
