Regional Council candidates named
Greater Wellington Regional Council received 27 nominations for 13 positions when enrolments for the local government
elections closed at midday today.
The preliminary candidates and their constituencies are as follows:

Electoral Officer Wayne Hastie said the list was preliminary until it was checked all candidates were eligible to stand
for election to the regional council. Greater Wellington has 13 councillors including a chairperson, who is elected by
the councillors, to cover the following constituencies:
Wellington Constituency 5 members Lower Hutt Constituency 3 members Wairarapa Constituency 2 members Porirua
Constituency 1 member Kapiti Coast Constituency 1 member Upper Hutt Constituency 1 member
Dr Hastie said that, subject to the final checking, Chris Turver, Kapiti, and Rex Kirton, Upper Hutt, would be declared
elected as they were the sole candidates for those constituencies which only required one member.
Voting papers, including candidate information, will be sent out to enrolled voters between 17-22 September and must be
posted back so they are received by 9 October.
