Hubbard Needs To Think Again On Motorway
Action Hobson has welcomed businessman Dick Hubbard to the Auckland Mayoral race saying it will add to the “contest of ideas”, but says he needs to think again his support for the planned Eastern Motorway, “scaled down” or otherwise.
“Aucklanders are against this motorway and a scaled-down motorway is possibly even more stupid than the current plans,” Greg Liggins, a candidate for the Auckland City Council, said on behalf of Action Hobson. “It would do the same environmental and community damage across Parnell, Hobson’s Bay, Orakei and beyond, but do even less to address Auckland’s traffic woes,” he said.
“What Auckland needs is a serious commitment to move away from motorway madness to the Rapid Transit Solutions every other major international city enjoys – modern rail, better buses, faster ferries, and all with integrated timetabling and fare structures.”
By “motorway madness”, Action Hobson refers both to the planned Eastern Motorway and to the gridlock Aucklanders endure everyday.
Action Hobson is not endorsing any Mayoral candidate and is committed to working constructively with whomever the people of Auckland elect as Mayor.
