Nominations invited for Civic Awards
Nominations are being called for this year’s Christchurch Civic Awards.
“These Awards are an opportunity for people and organisations working at the grass roots level to be recognised for what they do,” Christchurch City Council International Relations co-ordinator, Dave Adamson said.
Individuals (of any age) or societies can be nominated for an award. Categories include recreation, youth activities, social welfare, educational services, cultural affairs, religious studies or any other substantial service, usually of a voluntary nature, that helps to further the vision of Christchurch.. This is outlined in the Christchurch City Council’s Annual Plan.
Successful nominees will receive a framed certificate and boxed medallion from the Mayor of Christchurch at a civic reception in November.
Dave Adamson said, “I firmly believe if it wasn’t for people like this ( the recipients), society would almost grind to a stop. They often get no recognition at all, other than the satisfaction of a job well done – the Civic Awards are a way to rectify that.”
Nomination forms are available from Civic Offices, Council Service Centres and Christchurch City Libraries or by phoning 941 8775, for one to be posted. Nominations close on 25 August 2004.
